Based upon the Tom Clancy novel of the same name, Jack Ryan, a CIA analyst, is thrust right in the middle of a power struggle within the Colombian drug cartel after one of the President's 'life long' friends is murdered, apparently in retaliation for stealing money as part of a money laundering scheme for the cartel. Jack is then appointed acting Deputy Director of Intelligence, CIA, upon the terminal illness of Admiral James Greer, former DDI, and quickly gets in over his head due to his political naivete. The situation rapidly deteriorates when some of the presidents men convince the President to conduct covert actions against the cartel, in direct violation of congress. Felix Cortez, the security chief of Ernesto Escobeda, the 'victim' of the missing money, is one of the cartel boss's. Cortez tries to play both sides, appearing to inform Escobeda about the CIA's involvement in the covert operations against him, while trying to orchestrate a coup to take over the cartel, with Cortez as it's sole boss. James Cutter, the President's National Security Advisor, makes his own deal with Cortez, with the Presidents knowledge, and halts communications to the covert troops still in Colombia, through the Deputy Director of Operations, CIA, Robert Ritter. Ryan ends up going to Colombia to rescue the covet ops troops with the help of field agent John Clark, but not before some fence mending between the two, being that Ritter blamed Ryan for the comm outage, with Clark's men subsequently being captured by Cortez's mercenaries.

The makers of this Clear and Present Danger film is to be congratulated on a turn of Tom Clancy doorstop in a tense, closely woven thriller with an international cast of first class and believable plot. Where the previous two Jack Ryan films depends on acrobatics and plot twists too unbelieveable this Clear and Present Danger movie focuses on a military and political grubby little incident (plus the domain of men of intelligence) and men of honor and integrity (and a Ford used under Dafoe) caught in the middle of it. I also like this Clear and Present Danger Action movie for its subtle dig at the establishment of America and how it is assumed that may force the weak to make their bids. The character of Clark Clancy's fiction is interesting and merits further development. Casting Willem Dafoe in the part was actually a stroke of genius, and I could easily imagine his character in the bunch to make this kind of work if he had survived Vietnam. The fact that Dafoe is one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood that also means I like this.

I do not know anyone who does not like this film, clear and present danger. There was a funny cartoon I once read called the clear and present showed Dangerfield Rodney Dangerfield saying "I have no respect from these terrorists!" Very funny. The Clear and Present Danger Action movie has some cheesy moments and some patriotic moments of John Wayne to be proud. The book and the DivX film Clear and Present Danger are different, but the book, like most of Tom Clancy's books are so long that it is not possible to become like a movie. So, therefore, the DVD movie Clear and Present Danger focuses on the Jack Ryan and the other characters are almost the same. Henry Czerny is at the top as a supporting actor in it and got some papers from his strong performance underestimated. Donald Moffat plays both sides a better president than any actor who would otherwise have served as a dictator half upwards. As in the book, the President has no name, just going by the name of the President of the United States of America. Philip Noyce does a good job in directing this picture. And, of course, this is one of Harrison Ford in the role since the last big one was Tom Hanks and is desperate for an Oscar since. In general, it is a great DVD film Clear and Present Danger for everyone to enjoy.

An anaylst CIA, Jack Ryan (Harrison Ford), was promoted to Deputy Director of Intelligence of the CIA after Admiral James Greer (James Earl Jones) suffers from the disease. A close friend of the president (Donald Moffat) is murdered. The situation worsened when the president is convinced that action against the drug cartels. Felix Cortez plays both sides. It was "informed" of the CIA, and also working with the cartels. James Cutter (Harris Yulin), an adviser to the president, makes a deal with Cortez, and cut communications to the troops in Colombia, through the Deputy Director of Operations at the CIA, Robert Ritter (Henry Czerny). Ryan goes to Colombia to save the troops with the help of John Clark (Willem Dafoe), but not before Ryan Clark Ritter blamed for men being captured by the mercenaries of Cortez. Clear and present danger is a great action / political thriller that is one of my favorite movies of all time. Ford gives a great performance, perhaps his best. Theres also a great support cast including Willem Dafoe, Henry Czerny, and James Earl Jones. In addition to powerful drama, clear and present danger supplies good action sequences. I have not read the book, but after seeing the plan for this movie. Although the plot is a bit complex, this is a great film: Clear and Present Danger and a must see. If you like Ford, action, or great drama, then clear and present danger is that you should see a movie. This Clear and Present Danger film gets my highest recommendation. 10/10
